Please Note: Experts Exchange staff will be out of the office November 22nd-23rd for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Tech snark resumes promptly on Monday November 26th.
There are plenty of things you can do with your precious free Friday off of work instead of something terrible like shopping on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. If the pre-Black Friday pre-Gray Thursday lines were the single indicator of the strength of our nation’s economy, Wall Street would be poppin’ champagne bottles. Tents lined the sidewalks in front of Best Buys since last Wednesday in hopes of getting one of just a handful of promised dream-deals. A Southern Californian woman who has been in line since last week claimed they came up just short of achieving Black Friday Glory.
“Last year, I came on Tuesday and I was 17th in line. They only had 15 TVs,” she said.
Sadly, the people in line in front of Target are shivering in the cold because they have to buy their camping gear this year to camp in line next year.
Like extreme couponing, the drastic deals are only for the hardcore shoppers and they will not be across the board.
So instead, try one of these suggestions of what to do with your wonderful free time this Friday.
Watch an entire season, nay, an entire SERIES of that one show you’ve had in your Netflix queue for the last year. Maybe it’s Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, or Invader Zim. Maybe it’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or maybe it’s How It’s Made. Point is, you’ve put it off forever because you know once you start, you’ll want to watch ever episode. That’s cool; it’s what scripted television is designed to do. Hunker down with some leftovers.
Play through the entire Halo 4 game. You’ll crank it out in about 6 ½ hours. The campaigns are fun yet forgettable, but the memory of your marathon will live on in infamy. Also see, if you prefer, New Super Mario Bros. for WiiU or Assassin’s Creed III.
Design and implement the holiday light show you’ve been meaning to put on your house since you saw this video. You know a thing or two about electronics; you’ve been certain for some time that you can do something that’ll get you a few thousand views on YouTube.
Now that I’ve got you all convinced to stay home, I’ll be in line for my brand new Windows 8 powered Surface. LOL, J/K.
